Drone Exterior Cleaning in Hampton Roads & Williamsburg
Hampton Roads runs from the Virginia Beach oceanfront and downtown Norfolk across the water to Hampton and Newport News and up the peninsula to Williamsburg, with oceanfront hotels and condominiums, major hospitals, universities, and arenas, alongside one of the largest concentrations of military installations in the country. The drone reaches upper floors and rooflines without a lift tying up an entrance, a parking lot, or the sand for days.
Built for the region's mix of properties
Buildings across Hampton Roads face salt air off the ocean and the Chesapeake Bay on top of long, humid summers. Each surface needs a method matched to it: a low-pressure soft wash for brick, stucco, EIFS, and painted surfaces, chemistry matched to glass and metal, deionized water for solar panels, and a power wash for concrete. And a drone's small footprint means any closure of an entrance or parking is brief, not the days a lift or scaffolding can take. Because wind is usually stronger at the oceanfront, oceanfront work depends on the weather, and some jobs may need to be rescheduled. And with military installations large and small across the region, some locations need extra approvals, and some cannot be flown.
Our Hampton Roads service area
Our Hampton Roads service area covers the Southside, the Peninsula, and Williamsburg. These are the parts of the region we cover.
Virginia Beach oceanfront
Oceanfront hotels and condominium buildings along Atlantic Avenue, with balconies, railings, and upper floors that take the full force of salt spray, sand, and wind.
Downtown Norfolk & Town Center
Mid-rise office, hotel, and apartment buildings in downtown Norfolk and Town Center of Virginia Beach, with busy sidewalks right below.
Hospitals & medical centers
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Riverside Regional Medical Center, and the multi-story medical office buildings around them, where any closure of patient entrances or parking has to be as short as possible.
Universities
Academic buildings and residence halls at Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Christopher Newport University, and William & Mary.
Arenas & ballparks
Scope Arena, Harbor Park, Chartway Arena, the Hampton Coliseum, and the Virginia Beach Convention Center, with tall facades, seating, scoreboards, and signage that are hard to reach without a lift.
Williamsburg
Multi-story hotel, resort, and apartment buildings around Williamsburg, plus William & Mary's campus.
Military installations
Multi-story buildings and other tall structures on the region's military installations, from Naval Station Norfolk and Joint Base Langley-Eustis to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. Work on an installation requires prior approval from it, and we will coordinate with the installation before any flight.
Why Hampton Roads buildings get dirty
Buildings across Hampton Roads deal with salt, sand, and wind off the ocean and the bay, on top of long, humid summers and spring pollen.
Salt film and corrosion
Salt spray leaves a film on glass, metal railings, and painted surfaces. Salt pulls moisture out of the air, so coated surfaces stay damp longer, which speeds up corrosion, rust staining, and mildew. A low-pressure soft wash removes the salt film without the surface wear high pressure can cause.
Wind-blown sand and storm residue
Onshore wind carries sand and salt onto facades, balconies, and ledges, and every nor'easter or tropical storm leaves another layer behind. Built up over time, it dulls glass and paint and holds moisture against the surface.
Humidity, algae, and mildew
Surfaces that stay damp through a humid Hampton Roads summer, like north-facing walls, shaded stucco and EIFS, and concrete that rarely sees sun, grow green algae and mildew.
Black streaks on shingles
Black streaks on the shingle roofs of condominium, hotel, and apartment buildings are Gloeocapsa magma, an airborne cyanobacteria that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles and thrives in coastal humidity. A low-pressure soft wash kills it; pressure washing strips the shingle granules.
The yellow pollen season
Every spring, pine pollen coats roofs, ledges, windows, and solar panels. Mixed with morning dew, it turns into a sticky film that holds dirt and feeds mildew long after pollen counts drop.
Bird droppings on ledges and railings
Gulls and other shorebirds roost on ledges, rooflines, and railings. Their droppings are acidic and can stain and etch surfaces if left in place.
Hampton Roads questions
Can you fly near or on the military installations in Hampton Roads and Williamsburg?
Only with approval. Hampton Roads and the Williamsburg area have one of the largest concentrations of military installations in the country, from major bases like Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Air Station Oceana, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story to smaller sites such as Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown and its Cheatham Annex, Camp Peary, and Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown. The FAA restricts drone flights over many of them, and flying on or over any installation requires prior approval from it. The region's airports, including Norfolk International Airport, also have controlled airspace. Because installations of every size are spread across the region, we will check the airspace for every job, secure any authorization needed before scheduling, and tell you up front if a location cannot be flown.
Can you clean oceanfront condominium and hotel buildings?
Yes, when the weather allows. Oceanfront buildings take the full force of salt spray, wind-blown sand, and humidity, and the drone reaches upper floors, balconies, and railings without a lift on the sand or scaffolding against the building. Wind is usually stronger at the oceanfront, so these jobs depend on the weather, and we may need to reschedule if conditions are not safe.
Can you clean high-rise buildings in Norfolk and Virginia Beach?
Partly, and we will be upfront about which part. Our drone reaches up to 150 feet, and many of the region's downtown and oceanfront towers rise above that. On those buildings we can clean the lower stories, podium levels, entry canopies, signage, and attached parking decks. If your building is taller than we can serve, we will tell you during the assessment.
Can you remove salt buildup from oceanfront and waterfront buildings?
Yes, in most cases. Salt spray leaves a film on glass, metal, and painted surfaces that pulls moisture from the air, which keeps surfaces damp and speeds up corrosion and mildew. A low-pressure soft wash removes the salt film and the growth it feeds, and solar panels get deionized water with no chemicals. If corrosion has already damaged a surface, we will tell you during the assessment.
Does coastal wind affect drone cleaning?
Yes. Wind is the biggest limit on drone work at the coast, and it is usually strongest right at the oceanfront, so oceanfront jobs are the most weather dependent. We will check the forecast before every job and fly only when conditions are safe for the drone and for the cleaning, and if the wind picks up, we will pause or reschedule rather than risk increased overspray or an unsafe flight.
Can you clean a Hampton Roads hospital or medical building that never closes?
Yes. Medical buildings around the region's hospitals cannot shut down a patient entrance for a day of lift work. The drone works from a small, mobile footprint, so we may keep a small area clear for a short time while cleaning directly overhead, then move on. We will plan the work around entrances, ambulance routes, and parking with your facilities team before arriving.
Our HOA wants the black streaks off our roofs. Can you help?
Yes. The black streaks are Gloeocapsa magma, a cyanobacteria common on asphalt shingles in coastal humidity. A soft wash applied by drone kills the growth without anyone walking on the roof or pressure washing away the shingle granules. Individual homeowners can book roof cleaning directly, and associations can set up a community-wide plan covering clubhouses, amenity buildings, and other common structures.
Do you work with HOAs, condo associations, and apartment communities in Hampton Roads?
Yes. Associations and property managers can set up a single recurring plan covering clubhouses, amenity buildings, apartment buildings, and other common structures, with consolidated scheduling and billing. We will schedule around residents, and individual homeowners can book roof, solar, and skylight cleaning on their own.
